Unforeseen Friendship

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

Was Angel, the little bay mini, more than just a companion horse for her grown filly Rosie or did Angel have an unknown desire to really connect? Who would have thought that a love for this horse was inevitable from a little boy on the other side of the door?

“Hey Angel, hey girl” you could hear after C finished his ride with Willow. “Come on girl, come see me.” he would say each week after his lesson.

“Hey Angel, hey girl” you could hear after C finished his ride with Willow. “Come on girl, come see me.” he would say each week after his lesson. I tried to tell him Angel is very shy she has a hard time trusting people. One day, I couldn’t hold back from fulfilling the request to groom Angel. I faithfully went through the stall routine to halter her and brought her out into the isle. Immediately two arms wrapped around the little mare’s neck “I love you Angel!” was heard as her two eyes got very large but she did not jerk or bolt. She just stood there soaking it up. My heart was warmed.

This was the beginning of a sweet relationship. Little did I know how it would begin to change Angel. It wasn’t long until I heard C’s mom say “Angel just came and touched his hand at the door.” I never had seen her do that in the years I was here.

Angel continues to enjoy those moments with C. It might not be long until Angel decides she is more than just her filly’s companion but a partner for a special human who loves her.
